Iv'e just read a really awesome book! The title is Dragon's Blood. The author's name is Jane Yolen.It's about a fifteen year-old boy named Jakkin Stewart who is a bond boy in Master Sarkkan's dragon barns.more than anything Jakkin wants to be free from being a bond boy So Jakkin decides to steal a dragon egg so he can raise it to fight and earn enough money to earn enough money to be free from bieng a bond boy. Jakkin has to steal an egg with no one catching him and he has to steal it before a certain day which only comes once a year. So if Jakkin misses that certain day he will have to to wait another year to try and steal another egg. And if he steals a dragon hatchling then he will go to jail because the hatchlings are counted but the eggs aren't.Meanwhile while doing his chores the dragon he is taking care of by the name of Blood Brother gets spooked and kicks Jakkin into Likkarn ( the person in charge of the bonders) and knocks Jakkin unconscious. When Jakkin awakes he finds himself in a hospice ( a hospital ) , and soon learns he has been there for over a week and missed the day of the hatchlings by one day.
So Jakkin takes his chances and decides to steal a hatchling. So Jakkin goes into the incubarns and goes through three stalls, on the third stall's door the list read nine hatchlings. Jakkin went inside and only counted nine hatchlings. Jakkin had been there for only a few minutes when a little hatchling came up to him. Jakkin liked the dragon and the dragon liked him so Jakkin took advantage of the list being wrong, and took the little dragon. Jakkin took the dragon to a place he had found one day that he made especially for training his dragon in secret. Jakkin's dragon got stronger and bigger every day. Jakkin soon finds out that a mysterious bond girl named Akki was spying on him. Akki swore that she would never tell anyone that Jakkin stole the dragon. Jakkin and Akki started training Jakkin's dragon. Soon the dragon learned how to do numerous fighting techniques and it knew how to fly.Akki got Jakkin and his beautiful blood red dragon into the pits ( a fighting arena ). Jakkin's won the fight against an orange dragon named Bottle o' Rum. While with his dragon in it's stall at the pit, Master Sarkkan who had been watching the fight came and told Jakkin that he had knew Jakkin stole a dragon hatchling and that he had hoaped that he would. Master Sarkkan said he could keep the dragon at his nursery and he wouldn't send him to jail as long as he got the second hatchling. Jakkin named his dragon Heart's Blood.If you liked Dragon's Blood there is a seguel Heart's Blood that should be really good.
